Cultural activities in Gandia

If you come to visit Gandia, you can’t miss the most representative building in the city: The Ducal palace

It was home to the duques of Gandia and was the birthplace of Francisco de Borja in 1510 and lived there as the IV Duque of Gandia, it still conserves his room untouched along with his mortuary mask that was made,

This building is testimony to the history of the Safor capital from practically its origins. It was prince Pere de Ribaorça who having received the Town of Gandia by his father Jaume II in 1323. He chose this place for his residence as it was the highest point in the town. This was the start of what later became the Ducal Palace

It has been constructed, enlarged and restored over seven centuries, so we find vestiges of the original Gothic palace of the fourteenth and fifteenth centuries, Renaissance contributions of the XVI, Baroque transformations of the seventeenth and eighteenth and neo-Gothic reconstructions of the nineteenth and twentieth .
After almost a century of pillage and abandonment, in 1889 it was acquired in public auction by the Society of Jesus. In recent years, with the support of foundations and public institutions, a huge task of conservation and recovery of this heritage has been carried out.
