Description of El Saler Golf Club
|
|
Situated just south of the city of Valencia, El Saler Golf Club
is located on the Mediterranean and within Albufera Nature Park. It is laid out
on terrain dotted with pine trees and sand dunes which at the last few holes resembles
an English golf course.
Designed by Javier Arana, one of the most prestigious Spanish designers and opened
in 1968 it has similar characteristics to its Scottish "links" due to
the wind and sand dunes.
Ranked at number 60 in the world its most difficult hole is number 8, par 4, long,
and very well protected.
They made the most of the natural surroundings which are incorporated into the course
including the pine trees, and row of sand dunes that separate the pine grove from
the beach. The result is now very well known among the players that have used this
par 72 course: ample fairways, large, difficult greens, very few
of which are out of bounds, nearly one hundred bunkers some of them natural, making
good use of the sand dunes -, and the presence of the now famous "cats claw"
(a native plant).
