CALLOSA d’En Sarria Moors and Christians have been filmed by ITV for its sitcom, Benidorm. The popular comedy series, which features British people on holiday in the Costa Blanca resort town, has already filmed an episode at a spa in Alfaz del Pi. On Saturday, the film crew borrowed a number of Callosa’s regular fiesta participants, who donned their Moors and Christians outfits to the surprise of locals who would not normally expect to see the processions take place until later in the summer. “They’re going to pay us [the fiesta association] 3,000 euros, which will be a great help for our festivals in these times of recession,” said one of the women in costume. The fiesta association was also thrilled at the idea that their parade would be seen by nine million UK viewers.
